Welcome to the Policing Network website. The Policing Network aims to bring together academics, researchers, policy makers and practitioners who are interested in developing better understanding of contemporary issues relating to policing. The remit of the Network is broad, reflecting our desire to include a wide range of specialists interested in current debates about policing. Academic interest in policing has expanded in terms of the volume of scholarly and policy work. Additionally, this expansion has been informed by a broader conceptualisation of policing as a process of governance and regulation that encompasses agencies across and beyond the criminal justice system. The work of the Policing Network reflects these developments and provides a forum for scholars, policy-makers and practitioners to exchange and debate contemporary issues.
The Policing Network is a specialist group constituted under the auspices of the British Society of Criminology (BSC), although membership is open to anyone who is interested. The Network aims to open communication and facilitate critical reflection and exchange within and between the academic, policy and practice communities nationally and internationally.
Please take time to explore the content of our website to find out more about the activities of the Policing Network, and check back for updates soon. We would be delighted to hear from you if you have information about activities or events we ought to know about and if you would like to get involved in the Network.

Hi,
Due to the austerity of previous years, there is not enough money to support the justice system anymore from the police to the courts. There is a lack of police on the streets and a lack of court space due to closures and a lack of court time resulting in very long waits. This affects victims who need closure and suspects that are prevented from completing punishment or delaying punishment. The privatization of the probation service was a shambles, and has resulted in reverting to the old systems, which was flawed anyway, hence the change. This causes delays in rehabilitation for criminals. At the end of the line, the prison service is failing in their rehabilitation of convicted prisoners due to lack of prison space and cell availability and lack of officers to undertake this work. Therefore the reoffending rate has sky rocketed.
I would like to know what your opinions are on this,
Kind regards,
Kate
